The island of Newfoundland juts into the Atlantic off the northeastern tip of North America, where a distinctive geology, biology and cultural history have molded a unique people, with a strong tie to the sea. “The Rock” is a big place with lots of space – around 480,000 people inhabit an island the size of New Jersey, whose population is 19 times larger!

On this sea kayaking trip, we will explore one of the most remote areas along the coast of Newfoundland, Fortune Bay between Pooles Cove and Bay l’Argent. Our route will take us among the islands, under the cliffs and into the fjords where we will camp in isolated sites with great vistas and hiking options. We paddle most days but depending on the weather and the interests of the group we will spend more than one night at a base campsite (although, weather permitting, a day paddle will be an option in addition to a hike). Our journey will also take us to abandoned settlements as well as one of the last Newfoundland outport communities that is still only accessible by boat.

This trip is run in cooperation with our friends at Coastal Adventures.
