The Pond Inlet Ski Tour showcases the best of North Baffin Island and Sirmilik National Park. It is a unique expedition that focuses on the amazing Arctic landscape of North Baffin and Bylot Islands. A short snowmobile ride from Pond Inlet will have participants immersed in a frozen landscape of sea ice, icebergs, glaciers and ice capped peaks. This ski expedition will have participants and guides travel and camp on the sea ice. Our first few days will be spent exploring North Baffin Island, with its dramatic mountain scenery and extensive glaciation. After exploring Guys Bight and Erik Harbour the skiers will head North, crossing the land-fast ice to reach Bylot Island. Here we will enter the Bylot Island Migratory Bird Sanctuary and Sirmilik National Park. There may be a chance to visit the floe edge where some animals calling this interface of ice and water home might be seen.
Travelling westward along the Bylot coastline allows us time to visit ancient cultural and historic sites, see incredible glaciers and appreciate this majestic Arctic landscape. To travel, by any means, on sea ice is an exciting and unforgettable experience. A journey like this, to travel by ski across sea ice (often 6-7 feet thick) is one of the most unique and special expeditions offered anywhere in the polar regions.
